Tomorrow is the very last day of the legislative session – sine die. Generally, this day is largely uneventful. However, since our radical Governor cannot allow anything to pass that does not prop up her liberal agenda, she continues to veto common sense measures, like funding for the Midwest Stem Cell Therapy Center (MSCTC) at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) to fund research for treatments for COVID-19.
This small clinical trial using adult (non-embryonic) stem cell (ASC) treatments could provide alternatives and long-term solutions for those suffering from COVID-19. But because these sorts of trials don’t fit with a liberal Biden agenda and because the center was opened under Former Governor Brownback, Governor Kelly once again got out her veto pen.
Preliminary peer reviewed studies have shown that a type of adult stem cells could potentially reduce the inflammation that has led to the death of many from COVID-19. The FDA has approved more than 50 similar clinical trials to treat patients with the most severe symptoms from COVID-19. While this treatment still needs to be vetted further before being used in the open market, vetoing this funding for even a trial closes the door for Kansans, as well as for other Americans who may contract COVID-19 in the future.
While the numbers of those suffering from COVID-19 are declining, it is sad to see our Governor once again put her own political ideology ahead of finding real solutions for those who may suffer in the future.
Would you contact your legislators tonight and ask them to override the Governor’s veto? Tomorrow is their last chance!
