It’s hard to even know where to begin writing an email like this. This afternoon, we received word that conservative leader Charlie Kirk had been shot. It quickly became clear that he would only survive through a miracle. Unfortunately, Charlie went to be with his Savior this afternoon at the age of 31.
Charlie was a husband to his wife Erika and father to two young children. Charlie was known for boldly speaking the truth, and in more recent years, in defense of not just conservatism, but Christianity. He was dedicated to fighting a battle of words and ideas.
His death has shocked not just the conservative movement but the world.
We know that we have an enemy. We know that our enemy roots for the destruction of all that is good, true, and beautiful. Scripture is clear, “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph. 6:12). But sometimes, that enemy has a face and fights with real bullets. We also know that the enemy is not the One who determines the length of our days.
We must absolutely condemn this sort of horrific violence. Romans 12:1 reminds us, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” We know that in the end death will be swallowed up in victory and our soon coming King will restore all things and wipe every tear from our eyes.
Until that day, we grieve with the Kirk family and all those impacted by his work. We rededicate ourselves to standing for Truth no matter what the world says about us. May we say as Paul did, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Phil. 1:21).
Remembering Charlie,
