Dear Friends,
I occasionally get hate mail. It’s not unusual for someone like me who takes a public stand on controversial topics to be the recipient of this stuff. Compared to some of my colleagues, the stuff aimed at me is tame.
In the past, the angry emails and tweets filled with ugliness came from LGBT activists who didn’t appreciate my efforts to defend marriage and family. More recently, my hate mail has been coming from white supremacists who disagree with my belief that racism is a sin.
One said:
Please, white man, if you still have your testicles, reject Cuckstianity and support, traditional Uncucked Christianity.
“Cuck” has become a common epithet thrown around by white supremacists. It derives from the word “cuckold” which first appears in English literature in the 13th century and can be found in Chaucer and Shakespeare. A cuckold is the husband of an adulterous wife. In slang, to be a “cuck” is to be a weak, emasculated man.
White supremacists view a person like me, who recognizes the inherent dignity of African-Americans, Hispanics and Jews, as a sell-out to his race who has surrendered to the ideology of the Left. To racists, I am a cuck. Grounding my beliefs in God’s word is “Cuckstianity.”
I don’t expect these racists do much reading, but if I could, I would ask them to explore the Book of Hosea. It is the story of God’s prophet who is instructed to marry Gomer, an adulterous woman. Their marriage is a living picture of the betrayals of Israel against their God.
And the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins.” (Hosea 3:1)
The lesson of Hosea is that God is faithful to His bride even when she is unfaithful to Him. His promises are true; His love is unconditional.
This is very good news, especially for Christians, who are the Bride of Christ.
God’s selfless, sacrificial love for us despite our complete and total failure to love and honor Him is the distinguishing feature of the Christian faith. Responding to betrayal with faithfulness is not weakness, it is strength; meeting selfishness with sacrifice is not emasculating, it is salvation.
What a beautiful truth.
