Dear Friends,
Once in a while I see that bumper sticker that says, “If you didn’t vote, you don’t get to complain.”
There’s wisdom at work in this short statement. American citizens have the right to participate in our democratic republic, a privilege we ought not take for granted.
Voting is the most essential form of participation, but there are other important ways to engage. For example, Kansas Family Voice of Kansas regularly asks our ministry partners to write or call their elected officials and to sign petitions. And, for those citizens who are called to it, running and holding elected office is a special honor.
Romans 13:4 says, “For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good.” The word used here for “servant” can also be translated “minister.” Think about that! Holding political office is an important way that God uses us to accomplish his will upon the earth.
Right now, we are looking for men and women who love the Lord and desire to use the gifts and talents God has given to them in the political sphere. While national politics soak up a lot of the attention, a lot of important lawmaking (e.g. Adoption Protection Act) is done at the state level. The filing deadline for Fall 2018 Kansas House of Representatives elections is Friday, June 1.
