Every election brings its share of celebrations and disappointments, and Tuesday’s primary was no exception. Depending on where you live, what races you were focused on, and your particular take on certain candidates, you may have been more upbeat or downcast about the results.
Although Kansas Family Voice of Idaho was disappointed that our endorsed candidate for governor (Raul Labrador) came up a little short, we’re pleased that each of our other five endorsed candidates won their races and advanced to the general election.
In the First Congressional District, businessman and former state senator Russ Fulcher won the GOP nomination, winning 43 percent of the vote in a multi-candidate field.
In state legislative races, Sen. Mary Souza won in Senate District 4 with 69 percent. Sen. Patti Anne Lodge won with 52 percent in Senate District 11. Sen. Chuck Winder received 60 percent of the vote in his Senate District 20 race. And Rep. Paul Shepherd defeated his challenger with 58 percent in House District 7B.
All five now move on to the general election, where they will join three other candidates without contested primaries who were also endorsed by Kansas Family Voice of Idaho: Rep. Sage Dixon (House District 1B), Rep. Lynn Luker (House District 15A), and Secretary of State Lawerence Denney.
With the Left rallying voters for a massive turnout in November, it’s critical – regardless of whether all of our choices won on Tuesday – that pro-family conservatives join together to support the best available candidates in the fall. Stay tuned for more election information as key races heat up throughout the year.
