Dear Friends,
As we’ve seen in the news for the past months, certain states find it completely acceptable to kill a baby after birth. I find this reprehensible.
The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, H.R. 962, was introduced into Congress and would counter these laws at a federal level. The bill would effectively prohibit infanticide. It simply requires that a baby born during an abortion attempt receive the same medical care as any other newborn.
Pro-life members of the House have tried to vote on the Born-Alive Act over and over. In fact, they’ve tried 81 times! Each time, however, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has blocked the full House of Representatives from voting on the bill.
Because the Democrat leadership has refused to allow a vote on H.R. 962, House Republicans filed a discharge petition on the Born-Alive Act to force a vote. However, they are still 17 signatures shy of the necessary 218 to force a vote on this life-saving legislation.
What can you to do about this? First, I ask that you pray. Pray that at least 17 members of Congress have the courage to sign and that the vote happens. To call upon our Heavenly Father is an amazing privilege, and as it says in James 5: 16, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
The second thing I’d like to ask is that if you have not already done so, thank our Representative, Kelly Armstrong, for already signing this discharge petition, and more generally, cosponsoring the Born-Alive Act. We’ve made it very easy for you to thank him. Simply visit our Action Center, fill in your information (it takes less than a minute), and let Representative Armstrong know that North Dakotans support his strong stand on life.
We North Dakotans elected Representative Armstrong, in part, for his strong stand on life issues. Now we need to let him know we are proud of him for keeping his promises. We want the law to protect the lives of all, especially the most vulnerable among us who do not have a voice!
Sincerely,
Mark Jorritsma
